《火山》的故事发生在大理双廊镇伙山村，来自上海的艺术家沈见华和妻子秋秋、女儿莺莺移居在这里。他们住在一个安静的山头上，沈老师构思着自己的创作，秋秋幸福的等待着第二个孩子的诞生。几年前一个偶然的机会，沈老师发现这里的白族老太太有很好的色彩和造型天赋，于是他指导老太太们画起了农民画。当地的小伙子定龙，在几年前拜沈老师为师父，学习摄影和绘画，同时也担任了农民画社的社长……日子在苍山洱海间缓慢地流过，很多事情像是一成不变，但很多事情又在悄悄的变化着。
