It appeared in 1987 to critical acclaim then disappeared almost as quickly. For my opinion Bill Douglas's masterpiece stands alongside the best of Tarkovsky, Bresson and Bergman. Within minutes the viewer is pulled into a story of love and passion, solidarity and bravery. 'Comrades' is not just one-dimensional political polemic either. Far from it. Nor just a historical epic. This is character-driven story-telling of the highest order, definitely, although there are many layers to the film. It fuses and transcends both narrative drama and the avante garde and cries out for further viewings. In many ways 'Comrades' is an experimental visionary movie as well as a tribute to the cinema that came before cinema. (Watch out for the magic lanternist who appears in many guises.) Interestingly, the famous actors of the day - who Douglas didn't want in the film but was forced to use - were cast as the affluent classes while complete unknowns were cast as the Martyrs and their families. Director Bill Douglas was a man knew about poverty and struggle. He was raised in abject poverty in Newcraighall, which was then an impoverished mining village on the outskirts of Edinburgh. His autobiographical 'Trilogy' - filmed in a post-war Newcraighall that is now gone - is his only other cinematic output. But what a work! It is by far the finest cinematic achievement to ever come out of Scotland. Even the film scripts of 'Trilogy' are works of literature in their own right.

Neo Rauch has a worldwide reputation as one of the most successful German painters of his generation. His paintings fascinate with their enigmatic realism; characters seem to have fallen out of time and appear in a sleepwalklike state. What the painter is presenting shifts between dream, fantasy and elusive reality, comprehensible and unconventional at the same time. The pictorial narrative is never explicit or clear – but nevertheless it leaves the beholder spellbound. The film focuses on Neo Rauch himself. For the first time in years he talks in front of the camera about his approach to art, his universe of images and his personal past, which was deeply affected by the early loss of his parents. Director Nicola Graef shows the artist at work in his studio, observes critical dialogues with his artist wife Rosa Loy and discusses with international collectors, gallery owners and art lovers the phenomenon that is Neo Rauch.

三位三十多岁的巴黎好友在奥地利的群山里迷失了方向，他们也借此契机对自己的生活展开了反思。

Ilan, an adolescent boy who lives in a farming community, is in constant clash with his father. He accidentally finds a stack of letters in the house attic, letters from his sister Dalya, that never reached him. Through these letters he learns the story of his sister's disappearance, and some facts about his life and his deceased mother. He decides to run away to his sister. A complex relationship develops between the two. Ilan gets closer and closer to his sister's eccentric neighbor. The neighbor, an aging communist with a grand military past, runs, with Ilan's help, a battle against the authorities. The story starts as a conventional adolescent drama but quickly turns into a fascinating and unexpected maturing journey.

本片描寫澳洲四個同志家庭孩子的故事—葛斯、艾寶尼、馬特和葛拉罕，他們的父母剛好都是同性戀。當他們正與青春期裡的諸多挑戰搏鬥時，外面的世界則正在對婚姻平權的議題進行抗爭；少見從小孩視角呈現在同志家庭成長的樣貌，關乎家庭、性別、性與親子關係衝突等議題。在台灣同志領養小孩議題爭議不斷之時，可謂為值得參考的影像紀錄。
