因为一场考古意外，云不器意外从一个唐代的公主墓穿越到了初唐时期的大唐边境。为了安全起见，云不器冒用了自己祖先的名字：云烨。 在唐朝，云烨发现一个跟死去的女友小冉长得一模一样的女人，李安澜。阴差阳错中，李安澜救了云烨一命，并强行拿走了他身上唯一一件小冉的遗物——发簪，作为救命答谢。 云烨为了拿回发簪，又打不过武艺高强的李安澜，只好忍声吞气一路跟着李安澜当她的厨师，希望换回发簪。 在做饭过程中，云烨利用自己的现代知识提炼出细盐以改善口感，没曾想竟令精盐稀缺的唐朝人啧啧称奇，不过这也引起了正在边境开战的吐蕃军和大唐军的注意。
