本劇以短劇模式，以愛情、親情、友情、師生情、師徒情等各種感情為故事脈絡，以西鐵貫穿各個故事，並找來馬浚偉、陳松齡、許志安、王喜、陳曉東、張柏芝、郭羨妮、袁潔瑩、何嘉莉、黃偉文等紅星參與，飾演劇中的不同角色。雖然只是短劇，但故事頗能顯示各類感情的切身感覺，每集都有不同情節，是一輯兼具資訊性及娛樂性的溫情節目....

After the enforced absence of their father, three children move with their mother to Yorkshire, where during their adventures they attempt to discover the reason for his disappearance.

The story concerns the Waterbury family who move to "Three Chimneys", a house near the railway after the father, who works at the Foreign office, is imprisoned as a result of being falsely accused of selling state secrets to the Russians. The three children, Roberta (Bobbie), Peter and Phyllis, find amusement in watching the trains on the nearby railway line and waving to the passengers. They become friendly with Albert Perks, the station porter, and with the Old Gentleman who regularly takes the 9:15 down train. He is eventually able to help prove their father's innocence, and the family is reunited.The family also take care of the Russian exile, Mr Szczepansky,who came to England looking for his family (later located) and Jim, the grandson of the Old Gentleman,who suffers a broken leg in a tunnel.

故事发生在第二次世界大战期间，英国士兵埃里克（科林·费斯 Colin Firth 饰）被日军俘虏，被押送往泰缅铁路做劳工。埃里克偷偷藏起了一台无线电，通过收听电台，他得知日本在战争中早已经是强弩之末，蹦跶不了多久了，他和他的战友们就这样依靠着这一点点的慰藉和希望坚强的活了下来。 　　最终，埃里克的秘密还是被日军发现了，他们对埃里克进行了惨无人道的折磨，这给埃里克带来了巨大的精神创伤，这创伤直到战争结束三十年后，埃里克组成了自己的家庭之后依然分分钟影响着他的生活。某日，埃里克得知当年参与折磨自己的一位名叫长濑隆史（真田广之 饰）的军官依然健在，他决定去拜访他。
