青年徐正伦﹝谷明伦饰﹞因早年父母双亡，只得中途辍学就业，以担负起扶养弱弟子健﹝徐康泰饰﹞、幼妹小蕙﹝张艾嘉饰﹞长大成人的责任，幸得女友茵茵﹝胡茵梦饰﹞从旁协助及鼓励，始能渡过这漫长岁月，而且两人早有默契，等待弟妹能独立自主时，就计划成婚组织小家庭，其间虽生活颇为艰苦，然一家融融至乐。而小蕙却在偶然机会中认识刚由国外回来求学的刘大同﹝刘文正饰﹞，闲谈中觉彼此意向颇为相投，而这将引发什么样的风波呢...
