由于邮递员的粗心大意，送错了医院的病情会诊报告，年逾古稀的星爷认为自己得了艾滋病，整天心绪不宁，甚至产生了轻生的念头。他经常让孙子陪着外出钓鱼，以躲开邻里，求得暂时的安宁。正在这时，与他失散多年的孪生兄弟亚爷历尽千辛万苦找上门来，亚爷离家多年，终于回来，因兴奋过度，突发心脏病，猝死在浴室里，并被误认为星爷，待星爷回来看到家门口摆放着花圈，仰天长叹：难道这是天意？便要服毒自杀。幸亏孙子把毒药换掉才避免了悲剧发生。当众人又看到活生生的星爷，都惊讶地说不出话来。一场阴差阳错的闹剧平息了，家庭又恢复了往日的平静。
