여성지 기자 유진은 임신하지 않기 위해 남편과 잠자리에서 콘돔을 사용한다. 이에 남편 도찬의 불만은 늘어난데다 유진의 집안 살림 솜씨마저 엉망이라 순주를 가정부로 들인다. 그런 어느날 도찬과 순주와의 정사 장면을 목격하게 된 유진은 도찬과의 갈등을 견디지 못하고 설악산으로 향한다. 유진은 휴게소에서 울고 있는 향이를 만나게 되고, 지명수배된 부동산투기업자 향이의 타락하는 모습을 지켜본다. 어느날 유진은 불량배 달중으로부터 성폭행당하려는 순간, 대수라는 남자의 도움으로 위기에서 벗어나게 된다. 대수는 부인과 사별한 후 은둔생활을 하고 있는 모 재벌 상속자로 한때는 상류사회에서 관심의 대상이었던 인물이다. 유진은 대수와 즐거운 시간을 가지면서, 그의 별장에서 하룻밤을 보낸다. 그러나 부인의 환상속에서 헤매던 대수는 아버지 병환이 깊어졌다는 변호사의 말을 듣고 서울행을 결심, 유진과 짧은 순간이었지만 행복했었다는 말을 남기고 떠난다.
