John Forbes own a used car lot and business has been very slow. He only has one employee, whom he calls Dad, and has always assured him that no matter what, he will always take care of him. John's real problem is his extravagant wife who has just told him that she will be going on an expensive trip. When the opportunity presents itself, he takes care of the matter in a decisive way and with Dad's assistance, covers up his deeds. As the police bear down on him, John must determine who he will take care of first.

Caetano Gotardo, whose contribution to the omnibus film Neverquiet (Film of Wonders) was screened in 2011 at IFFR, stays close to home in his second feature. He writes, directs, edits and also plays the leading role. The story is set in the Brazilian artists’ milieu. 　　Joao has extensive conversations with friends, strangers and himself. For instance with his best friend Irene, who cannot let go of memories of her ex; and the boy he meets in the metro, with whom he wants to have sex. Beside life and love, the creative process is a recurring theme in the conversations, in the best traditions of filmmakers like Éric Rohmer or Hong Sang-soo. Piece by piece, the encounters, conversations and monologues have a great influence on Joao, who literally wrestles with his attitude to life. A puzzle unfolds within which time, narrative, character and perspective are all jumbled up in an intriguing way.

《長期照顧》算是我個人的紀錄式動畫。我把我所遇到的困難和其他感受一一畫下來，做成動畫。雖然影片僅短短七分多鐘，卻是我用十年去做、去學習、去感受的作品。
