Engineering an Empire is a program on The History Channel that explores the engineering and/or architectural feats that were characteri stic of some of the greatest societies on this planet. It is hosted by Peter Weller, famous for his acting role as RoboCop but also a lecturer at Syracuse University, where he completed his Master's in Roman and Renaissance Art. The executive producer is Delores Gavin. The show started as a documentary about the engineering feats of Ancient Rome and later evolved into a series. Built on Narrow Land is a film that looks at a moment in Cape Cod when the spirit of European modern architecture inspired a group of bohemian designers -- professionals and amateurs both--to build houses that married principles of the Bauhaus to the centuries-old local architecture of seaside New England. 　　But in 1959, with the establishment of the Cape Cod National Seashore the fate of these houses suddenly hung in the balance. The film documents an important period in the history of Modern Architecture through the lens of one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Nino Monti, un commercialista pavese, incontra in autobus una donna amata nella giovinezza, Anna Brigatti, ormai sfiorita e disfatta. La rivede in concomitanza con un efferato delitto. Intanto da un amico dottore, viene a sapere che Anna è morta di cancro da tre anni, dopo aver sposto il conte Zighi ed essersi trasferita a Sondrio. Nino ha occasione di andare a Sondrio e rivede Anna ancora piacente. Si danno un appuntamento sulle rive del Ticino, nei luoghi del loro giovanile amore; ma in un banale incidente Anna affoga. Nino la rivedrà ancora, vecchia e disfatta, a Pavia, ove di nuovo si sperderà nelle acque del Ticino. Nino si ritrova in una casa di cura ove ricompare l'Anna giovanile nelle vesti di un'infermiera...
