2007年5月，第一个婴儿安全岛在日本熊本市设立，在媒体和舆论大众的质疑下，这里的医护人员对刚刚来到人间便由于各种原因被家人遗弃的小天使展开救援。时间还需回溯到一年前，供职于圣母子医院的护士长安田裕美子（药师丸博子 饰）和院长都深感遗弃婴儿事件的频繁发生，于是决定成立婴儿安全岛，他们制定完整、周详的计划，说服了包括熊本市市长（佐佐木藏之介 饰）在内的政府官员，终于将命名为“鹳鸟摇篮”的婴儿安全岛建立起来。在此之后，一个个小生命接二连三来到医院，裕美子和同僚不仅悉心照顾那些稚嫩的小生命，还与他们的亲人父母积极沟通。 　　这不是一个丢弃爱的垃圾箱，而是一个让爱重新出发的温暖场所……
