故事的主人公是四个高中生，为了能轻松修够学分最终顺利毕业，他们决定挑选一些看上去比较容易过的课程项目，其中就包括招待外国交换生。虽然国籍不同，但是青少年的烦恼和快乐都是大体相似的。从最初的陌生腼腆到后来渐渐熟络，外国交换生与主人公们都从对方身上学到了不少东西……

一个十三岁的伦敦男孩被德国夫妇埃里克和Charlotte Neufund选为交换生，他带着老师的提示进入这个节目，拼命寻找一个麻烦的、反社会的女儿菲奥娜的朋友，没有咨询她。他们期待一个女孩，所以想把萨克迪亚南达派回来，她是一个以印度血统为荣的小学生，但在品尝了他那古怪的自信和东方骑士的支持之后，菲奥娜加入了她体面的妹妹安妮卡反对驱逐一个做了一切正确的外宾的计划，所以这个计划就成立了。桑迪证明了一个杰出的微型甘地，他把失去的凝聚力带回了家庭，当埃里克的税务问题危及他们的生计，夏洛特被孩子们发现有外遇时，家庭陷入危机。在伦敦豪宅见到桑迪的父母对德国人来说是另一个重大惊喜。
