改编自瑞典剧作家斯特林堡的同名剧作。导演尤妮·斯特罗美应拍摄要求删减并重新设定很多情节。原著有关梦的部分在电影中更为明显。片中大部分关于梦的事件都和女主阿涅斯的生活有关，她在产二胎时，因难产而垂死，她嫁于一个麻烦的律师，她有一个交心的诗人朋友。故事基调绝望阴郁，知道大女儿的获救才带来一丝生命的感觉。 　　导演说“这是一部有着自己世界的影片”，摄影剑走偏锋，移动摄影加大量运用光与影，同时在拍摄过程中改变光源，这部电影在他手中成为黑与白的美学奇幻作品。

毕业大戏直播开始前，女主突然失踪，导演沈鱼、男主肖晓华找遍后台，正急得焦头烂额时，编剧江翼坦言是自己临时修改剧本，沈鱼不满江翼自作主张与其争执了起来。这让沈鱼不禁想起了他们的初遇，也是由一场争执开始。
