1944年，德国士兵卡尔海因茨休假回家，与妻子爱娃过着甜蜜的生活。当他再次返回前线时，他让夏娃照顾自己在战争中受伤致残的朋友塞巴斯蒂安。战争结束后，卡尔海因茨被列入失踪人员名单。爱娃在等待了多年后，终于放弃了希望，在家人和朋友劝说下与塞巴斯蒂安结婚，岂料这时卡尔海因茨突然回到了家里……

One of the movies I speak of to friends over and over again, a universal story with relevance to all those who find themselves seeking to fit in, to retain their dignity in the face of cruelty and racial and national bias. 　　It is based on the major migration of Japanese to the "New World", in particular Brazil, in the period after WW1. It deals with their exploitation in the agricultural sector of the Brazilian economy. 　　Hard to find. I saw it at a Film Society in Alaska in the late 80's. Hope it will be released someday soon in a locally viewable format.
