Crocodile in the Yangtze follows China’s first Internet entrepreneur and former English teacher, Jack Ma, as he battles US giant eBay on the way to building China's first global Internet company, Alibaba Group. While sailing lawfully up the Yangste river in 1949, the British warship Amethyst found its return to the open sea blocked by Communist Chinese shore batteries that unexpectedly opened fire. In charge, Lieutenant Commander Kerans was not however prepared for his crew and his ship to remain as a hostage for the Chinese to use as an international pawn.

1936年，红军长征途经金沙江畔藏族地区，国民党勾结大土豪仇万里，企图阻挠红军渡江北上。仇万里让爪牙假扮红军劫走土司桑格的独生女珠玛， 挑拨土司和红军的关系。 红军则坚持党的民族政策，救出珠玛，渡金沙江开拔到藏区边界。仇又抢先潜入藏区。言称珠玛已被红军所杀 ，提供弹药武器让土司打 红军。为揭破敌人谣言，红军指导员金明带一个班掠送珠玛回家。但奉命给土司送信的战士被敌人杀害。 危急时刻，金明冒险上山与土司谈判，土司信疑参半，派亲信下山探看虚实。不料使者又遭仇万里暗算，他带伤到红军驻地，说明情况。在仇万里的唆使下，土司正要杀害作为人质的金明，珠玛带红军赶到，向土司揭露了敌人。 仇万里慌忙逃窜，坠人金沙江毙命。红军打通了道路，继续北上。
