二战遗孤登川（宍戸錠 饰）从中国返回日本后，不久便遁入黑道。因犯下累累罪行，登川最终锒铛入狱，不久却被恶德律师伊藤保释出狱。原来某黑帮头目垂涎马会高达1亿2千万的现金，因此指示伊藤救出登川，企图让他劫持马会的运钞车。为了给在医院中的妹妹梨枝（松原智恵子 饰）治病，登川接受了这项危险重重的任务。他找到了白井（小高雄二 饰）、冈田（井上昭文 饰）、寺本（草薙幸二郎 饰）等人，制定了一份详细的劫持计划。初步的行动虽然进展顺利，但是状况频发，所有的人都置于了危险之地。正所谓人为财死，鸟为食亡…… 本片根据大藪春彦的小说改编。

In 1928, Gaston Modot was on the set of the ambitious production of *The Marvellous Life of Joan of Arc, the Maid of Lorraine*, directed by Marco de Gastyne. During the day, he played a secondary role, that of Lord William Glasdale, commander of Les Tourelles. But at night or between takes, he immersed himself in a completely different project: the cinematic adaptation of a short story, *Torture by Hope*, taken from the collection *New Cruel Tales* written by Auguste de Villiers de l'Isle-Adam. By exploiting a fortuitous loophole, the modest production of *Cruel Tale* managed to minimize its expenses by reusing sets (Mont-Saint-Michel Abbey, Vézelay Basilica), equipment, some actors, and a smaller technical crew from Marco de Gastyne's costly film, which benefited from public and Church support, permits, and other conveniences. *Cruel Tale*, Gaston Modot’s sole directorial work, is a film born in the shadows. The shadow of the luminous Joan of Arc, a heroic figure through whom the 500th anniversary of the liberation of Orléans was being commemorated. The dark shadow of a dungeon where heretics who refused to recant were tortured under the Spanish Inquisition in the late 15th century. *Cruel Tale* thus evokes shadows through its subject and its forms. Beyond mysticism and its obscurantist deviations, the character played by Gaston Modot carves a path toward light, one that can be followed through a purely cinematic reading, where shadows, initially thick and merged, gradually separate and traverse nuances. Gaston Modot, the director, demonstrates remarkable mastery in composing shots inhabited by the terror of a condemned man attempting to escape. The handheld, trembling camera, along with equally subjective and hallucinatory superimpositions, follows the hunted man in a deeply inspired motion. *Cruel Tale* was released in 1930, a time when sound cinema was at its zenith, celebrated as the latest technological innovation. To the extent that it rendered the earlier form of cinema obsolete—a form that would acquire the handicap of silence, later retroactively labeled as “silent.” Should we see, in the injunction addressed to the condemned man in *Cruel Tale*, an unconscious reflection of the condemnation of a cinema that refused to speak? 真琴（桑野美雪 饰）是个叛逆的女高中生，一次搭便车时她险被车主非礼，幸好被路过的藤井清（川津祐介 饰）救下。次日二人再次相遇，相约到水边游玩，然而阿清却粗暴对待真琴并企图强暴她。事后真琴并没有迁怒于阿清，还给他留下了联系方式。阿清却迟迟没有联系真琴，因为他与一个有夫之妇有染。伤心的真琴在酒吧里借酒消愁，遭到几个小混混骚扰。阿清赶来救下真琴，于是二人再度和好，并决定同居。因为把钱都给了小混混，阿清交不起学费，他便决定和真琴联手，敲诈那些愿意搭载真琴的中年男人，二人屡屡得手。不久后真琴怀孕，阿清执意要她去堕胎。为了筹钱，阿清只好又和有夫之妇上床，另一方面，郁郁寡欢的真琴和另一个男人发生关系。这对恋人都不知道，会有怎么样的命运等着他们。

江户时代后期，池田屋事件后，江波三郎身怀为新撰组原局长叔叔芹泽鸭复仇的愿望、以奸细身份加入了新撰组，目睹低层武士因触犯幕府规则而遭残暴对待，从最初的震惊愤慨，到后来逐渐麻木，并以身不由己为麻醉自己的借口，逐步参与到这场血腥行动中，最终身份败露，仍逃不过杀戮。镜头风格多变，此片为加藤泰代表作之一。

自己を犠牲にしてまで主君に仕える日本人の被虐的精神構造を、江戸時代から現代までの7つのエピソードで描くオムニバス映画。第13回ベルリン映画祭で金熊賞を獲得した。物語は現代に生きるサラリーマン・飯倉が、ダムの入札をめぐって上役から競争会社の情報を盗むように言われ、スパイをしたその恋人が自殺未遂をするところから始まる。映画はそこから飯倉の先祖にさかのぼり、主君や国家のために犠牲になって死ぬ飯倉家七代の残酷な歴史を綴っていく。藩主の落度を被っての切腹に始まり、殉死、不義密通の濡れ衣で男根を切られたり、老中に娘を献上したり、戦争で死んだりと、異様なエピソードの数々に日本人の原形が重ね合わされる。

GUNGRAVE（铳墓）的原作是PS2电玩游戏，后改编成全26集的动画作品。整个动画的基调略显阴沉颓废，前半部分除了第一话都是男主人公的回忆，而后半部分则叙述了男主人公的复仇。 铳墓是一部很有深度的动漫，它从友情、亲情、爱情等多个方面表现了人性的善与恶，引人深思。

舞台是在关原之战西军胜利后，在大阪开创了丰臣幕府的400年前的假想日本（历史上关原之战为东军胜利，由德川家康开创了德川幕府），动画中妖怪“アヤカシ”试图支配整个人类，而我们的主人公则是使用融合了手枪与拳法的武术“GUN道”的双枪少年“武藏”。“武藏”真正的职业是四处偷窃城堡里金银财宝的“城盗”，为了得到能封印“アヤカシ”的“七件秘宝，而和同伴们在日本全国展开了盗窃行动。

Constantly on the hunt and suffering from hallucinations that drive his violent nature, an unnamed man is capturing women and savagely beating them to death. Meanwhile, a woman is luring men into a violent end, by way of her knife. Driven by the same force to make the opposite sex suffer, the killers’ fates intertwine. The two must face off in a battle to the death, in which they are forced to reveal the horrible truth behind their addiction to murder. “Brutal” takes an interesting approach to its visuals, drawing heavy influence from Western “Grindhouse” films, using a filter to make the footage appear grainy, damaged, and with light and color fluctuations. Unfortunately, the visual styling ends up feeling misguided, as other than applying the filter it does not imitate any other aspects of the “Grindhouse” genre. Despite trying to dirty up the film, it is apparent it was shot on digital. The cinematography is also a step above most “Grindhouse” productions, with Takashi Hirose proving he has talent behind the camera. Exterior shots to those taking place in small spaces are all competently framed, lit, and transition well. The decision to add an effect on top of the work hurts the film’s imagery and even gives a sense of desperation to try to capture a certain type of nostalgia with the audience, instead of relying on its own strengths. It is unfortunate when one creative choice can hurt a production so much. The story of “Brutal” is simple but effective, it does attempt some sort of social commentary about the violent nature of men and women, but it does not offer enough depth into the subject to justify the amount of violence on display. The film does end on a strong note with an interesting twist, with a reveal that is bound to gross some out, while giving others a chuckle. In spite of its simple nature, those who enjoy films that make them somewhat uncomfortable and enjoy the challenge of getting through some ultra-violence, “Brutal” poses a fun and entertaining challenge in that regard.
