《数论基础》系根据前苏联国立技术理论书籍出版社著《数论基础》修正第六版译出的。原书经前苏联高等教育部审定为综合大学物理数学系的教本。《数论基础》前出第五版译本（由商务印书馆出版）曾得到北京大学闵嗣鹤教授的帮助，同时，中国科学院数学研究所所长华罗庚教授为《数论基础》写了指导性的介绍，对读者有很大的帮助。
