传统豫剧《三哭殿》是一出久演不衰、唱段广为流传、在群众中很有影响力的唐（喜成）派名剧。将它搬上银幕，不仅满足了当代广大群众的文化需求，而且，对于传承豫剧唐派艺术、保留非物质文化遗产，有着不可低估的历史意义。 　　《三哭殿》这部影片的摄制宗旨是尊重传统、传承传统，在尽可能保留原汁原味的前提下发展创新。因此，该剧版本虽多，但电影剧本以当年唐喜成先生演出本为基础，仅作了些电影时空的处理与调整。在唱腔方面，尽可能小改小动。为了保证这一意图的体现，我们特请当年该剧舞台导演、秦英的扮演者谢巧官出山担任副导演。与此同时，又将影片全部场景放在横店影视城的实景拍摄，在戏曲与电影两种不同的艺术形式之间，以戏曲为本，避实就虚、虚实结合，通过真实的皇宫庭院，丰富了影片的造型元素，给人以赏心悦目之感。 　　影片的最大看点是河南戏剧名家大荟萃，汇集了河南省豫剧界生、旦、净、丑各个行当的顶尖人物。李世民由74岁高龄的唐派传人、国家一级演员贾廷聚扮演；银屏公主由河南省豫剧三团团长、省剧协副主席、国家一级演员汪荃珍扮演；长孙皇后由河南省豫剧一团副团长、省剧协副主席、国家一级演员王惠扮演；老家院由国家一级演员、著名丑角表演艺术家轩玉亭扮演；詹太师由省曲协主席、著名相声演员范军配唱；中国剧协副主席、省剧协主席、河南省豫剧二团团长、国家一级演员李树建扮演了一个没几句台词的小角色，为影片锦上添花；扮演詹妃、秦英的优秀青年演员崔菊萍、宋秀丽也表现不凡。
