千葉県のニュータウンにある、日本最大級の売り場面積を誇るホームセンターが舞台。ここでは、日用品から建築資材、園芸用品まで、ありとあらゆる商品がそろう。ベランダ菜園を作ろうと都心から木材を調達しにやってきたサラリーマン。母親を家で介護するため、手すりやスロープを自力で作りたいという女性。DIY（Do It Yourself）で、“今日より、少し良い生活”を手にしようとやってくる人々の声に耳を傾ける。
