抗战爆发，三名女子逃到上海，租住于一幢房屋的后楼。三女去应聘家庭教师，没有成功，却与四名流浪男子相识，更巧的是四人就住她们隔壁，七人成为好友。二房东因一家房客无力支付房钱，强行将电线掐断，七人上前打抱不平，得知这家男主人正从军报国，家中就剩老弱病残。为帮助这家人，七人到市中心广场演露天戏筹救济款，演出非常成功，各电台亦邀他们去演话剧。待七人挣钱归来，这家人中的老父亲已伤重而死，女儿亦自杀。七人将钱款交给无助的女主人，决定离开这新地狱……
