博学的天文学教授（Georges Méliès 乔治•梅里爱 饰）正在给学生们上课，但调皮的学生无心听讲，一心打闹、捉弄老师。教授对此无计可施。 　　正争吵间，天空忽然变暗，教授连忙跑上阁楼，通过望远镜他看到了奇妙的一幕：一个女性的月亮正朝着男性的太阳靠近，继而重合，形成一次美妙的日食。俄而天空出现星斗，神仙、仙女坐在星星上飞来飞去，或者谈笑，或者吵闹，好不惬意。接着又出现精彩的流星雨景观，仙女们自天空中纷纷落下。老教授看得出神，一不留神自阳台栽下，吓坏了学生和助手……

The odds are low, the risks are high – photographer Reuben Krabbe is determined to capture an impossible photo of a skier in front of the 2015 solar eclipse in Svalbard, Norway. 　　Up in the high arctic though, the weather is bad and the pressure is massive. To add to the difficulty of the project, the guide is sketchy, there’s an active polar bear out there somewhere and the group of skiers that accompany him just want to ski.

The film Days of Eclipse is based on a novel by famous Soviet science fiction writers — brothers Arcady and Boris Strugatsky. The action has been transferred to the Central Asia where a young Russian doctor gives treatment to children and tries his hand at writing. Introducing us a young contemporary at the crossroads (for the first time in Sokurov's work), this film becomes the first part of a cinema trilogy. 　　This character, whose formative years pass in the situation of broken and showing its cracks way of life, becomes a link between three of Sokurov's films. The whole 'trilogy' is joined together by the bitter irony regarding worn–out sacral symbols. Films Days of Eclipse, The Second Circle, The Stone, made in different years, are linked up with each other by one common plot: permanent co–existence of real everyday life, of so to say daily routine, with messages or messengers from Nowhere. 　　The young athlete from Days of Eclipse played by young non–professional performer Alexei Ananishnov is no less an archaic symbol of the former power of the collapsed Soviet empire than a recording of Brezhnev's speech sounding in the film or huge plaster cast Hammer and Sickle sticking out in the desert. 　　Dmitry Malyanov from Strugatsky's novel A Milliard Years before the End of the World has nothing in common with the character of Days of Eclipse beside the name. In fact, for Sokurov's hero the end of the world has already come and the border of this end has fallen on his life. The character who has been brought to the world of alien climate, alien speech, alien customs, learns not to be surprised at the cases of violence against others and himself — in order to survive, speaks to a dead body, tames and feeds exotic reptiles, and, on top of that, meets an angel appearing as a child. 　　This film was successful with the cinema audience of Perestroika years. Synopsis 　　A sudden gunshot destroys the dream of two lovers. The fate of Orpheus and Eurydice is a cruel one. On their wedding day, her soul is kidnapped and taken down into the Netherworld. Under a metaphysical sky Charon, the taxi driver, waits for the crime to be committed. 　　COMMENTARY 　　The movie is an opera-musical with an immersive and transmedial language. The myth is transposed into the contemporary age: Charon is a taxi driver and we go from Paris half under water to the stage of the Teatro Regio in Turin, in a play of musical references that range from Puccini to Händel, from Verdi to Gluck, from Vivaldi to Frankie Goes to Hollywood. And the images fuse words, lyric opera, fashion and the visual arts, between the real and the virtual. 　　DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT 　　We created an unexpected encounter between acting and lyric opera, between pop, special effects and images filled with symbolism. Bringing into a cast of extraordinary actors such as Vincent Cassel, Fanny Ardant and Rossy De Palma two young artists selected among hundreds of lyric opera singers: Valentino Buzza and Mariam Battistelli.
