江戸本郷で商する、八百屋善助の一人娘お七は本郷小町といわれ、近在に知れ渡っていた。やがて、お七に質屋の息子作兵衛との結婚話ができ、両親は、自分達の栄達を夢見、いやがるお七を説伏せようとした。そんなある日、嵐が江戸の街々を襲い、本郷界隈も出水して、お七一家は吉祥寺へと避難した。両親が執拗に進める結婚話に打ちひしがれたお七は、寺小姓吉三郎の澄んだ瞳に強く惹かれた。やがて、江戸下町の水も引き、明日は本郷に帰らなければならないという日、お七は吉三郎と結ばれた。だが、二人の仲は、母おひさに感ずかれてしまった。おひさは、吉三郎にお七との事は無かったことにしてほしいと懇願した。家に帰ってからのお七は、吉三郎への恋慕の情がつのるばかりだったが、両親は早く作兵衛といっしょにさせようと、お七を部屋にとじこめ、踊りやお琴を押しつけ、吉三郎のことを忘れさせようとした。一方、吉三郎は檀家の娘に傷つけたということから江戸を追放された。やがて、お七と作兵衛の仮祝言が行なわれた。表座敷のにぎわいをよそに初夜の床がのべられた部屋にとじ込められたお七は吉三郎のことを想いつめ、女中のお梅から吉三郎が江戸に戻ったことを聞き部屋に火をつけてしまった。遠く、半鐘の音と火事の喧騒が聞こえる街はずれまできた二人は江戸を離れようとしたが、すでに手配され、抵抗した吉三郎は斬られた。数日後、裸馬に乗せられ刑場まで引かれるお七の姿があった。

'At a time when cinema is once again searching for the core of its uniqueness, I felt the need to go back to the essence. Back to the train, back to sounds which are music in and of themselves and back to the motionless camera that creates the space to look.' Forever does not show images to go along with the story, but allows you to discover the story within the image. 　　The silence and loneliness are not final destinations. And Manda does not leave Costas and Anna in peace. When bad news turns Costas’ life upside down, he decides to fight for his right to live and love. He buys a ticket for the boat from Anna.
