One day, distracted by the persistent hum of a bee, she follows its sound into a nearby forest. Surrounded by the breath of the trees and the pulse of life around her, Alice’s restlessness begins to soften. There, among branches and silence, she discovers a tree that seems to have been waiting for her. Drawn back day after day, she writes about what she sees and feels — the resin that drips like tears, the parallels between bark and skin, trees and humans. Through a gradual but obsessive dialogue with the trees, Alice discovers the quiet symmetry between humanity and nature — and, perhaps, a way of setting grief free.

Held up for 7 years before it was released, Far from the Trees seems like a perfect successor to Luis Bunuel's Land Without Bread. Like that earlier film, it is a kind of impressionistic travelogue that shows a Spain far from the beaten paths of the tourist resorts; not only poverty but the persistence of superstitions and occult beliefs captured by the film rebuke the image of a forward-looking, modern Spain that by the 60s was being promoted by the Franco regime. Esteva Grewe largely allows the images and juxtapositions to speak for themselves, giving the film a lyrical feeling that somewhat softens its social criticism - though obviously not enough for the censors. It is commonplace for students of Spanish and Latin American culture to speak of the "Black Legend", through which northern Europeans demonize the Spanish. In this documentary, Catalan filmmaker Jacinto Esteva Grewe does the job himself. Here, he attempts to show the dark side of Spanish life, especially its religious fanaticism and promotion of the idea that ritualistic cruelty is somehow noble. This film had major portions removed by Spanish censors before it was allowed to be shown, but the cuts are not thought to have improved (or detracted from) this mean-spirited diatribe.

美丽女孩清雅（李英雅 饰）从事着一份常人不太了解的职业——树木治疗师。她亲切和善，尤其喜欢花草树木，工作中也很用心地为植物处理各种各样的疾病。这一天，她接到一项任务，前去某高中为受感染的树治疗。在此期间，她偶遇一名颇有些神经质的青年，对方咄咄逼人的目光和极富深意的笑容令她的心底若有所动。而当她将手放在患病的树上之际，她竟然感知到一个陌生高中女孩的存在。在此之后，各种噩梦和诡异经历交替向清雅袭来，和善的笑容不再，代之以疲惫恐慌的神情。另一方面，神秘青年执着地逡巡在清雅附近，试图让她想起自己以及过去的事。 一切朝向不可预知的方向发展……

《树木写作颂》是由Jessye Wdowin-McGregor创作的“视频诗”，与著名诗人、小说家、学者、编辑和翻译家欧阳昱（Ouyang Yu）合作完成。该作品反思了欧阳昱长期以来在澳大利亚墨尔本东北郊的布杜拉公园（Bundoora Park）树干和树叶上写诗的日常实践。布杜拉公园是一个大型开放的公园，是欧阳昱近三十年来不断回访的灵感来源地。 该作品是在2023年“Correspondences”（墨尔本，澳大利亚）的合作艺术家驻地项目期间创作的，该项目由Emma Thomson策展。视频中所朗读和书写的诗歌均来自欧阳昱，除了两首古代中国诗歌——分别是王之涣的《登鹳雀楼》和李白的《静夜思》。王之涣的诗《登鹳雀楼》/“White Sun”出现在树上，欧阳昱朗读李白的诗《静夜思》/“Thoughts on a Still Night”。注：上述诗歌的标题由欧阳昱翻译。
