文子(月丘梦路饰)应母亲的要求嫁给了第一次见面的安西茂(织本顺吉饰),她曾尝试写作短歌,但并未有成为歌人的念头。山上家举办了短歌集会,文子凭几首短歌获得赞誉,并与心仪的堀卓先生(森雅之饰)相遇,然而丈夫的出轨让文子决定结束这段不幸的婚姻。某天,媒杉本夫人到来,告诉她已经办好了离婚手续,但长子阿升必须回到丈夫身边,离婚后,又因在弟弟婚姻上不愿忍受众人的闲话,文子带着女儿拜访堀卓,却未料这是她与堀卓的最后一次见面。其后堀卓因病去世,文子悲痛欲绝。随后文子因乳腺癌住进札幌医院,而此时《短歌时代》征稿活动中,她的作品被选中,成为歌坛焦点。住院期间东京日报的记者大月章(叶山良二饰)赶到医院探望文子,文子在与大月的交流中逐渐情愫大月,在大月被公司召回的几天后,文子未能战胜病魔,最终离世。这位年轻歌人的遗体也被运到了灵安室。初夏绿色映照的一天,洞爷湖畔,大月章和阿升、爱子一起站着,把文子的歌集,阿升手里的花束扔向湖面。 　　电影改编自若月彰撰写关于歌人中城文子的报告文学《永恒的乳房》 　　中城文子所著歌集《丧失的乳房》、《花之原型》，由日活制作发行。 　　若月彰(对应影片 东京日报记者大月章) 　　中城文子(对应电影女主角 下城文子) 　　中城文子（1922—1954）歌人,带广市人。旧姓野江文子 中城是婚后的姓氏 离婚后也姓中城。1946(24岁)年加入新恳社,师从小田观萤、野原水岭。1953(31)年入潮音社。成婚于北海道,生三子,后离异。1954年因患乳腺癌、肺癌,住院于札幌医大附属医院。其间应征参加《短歌研究》五十首咏。由中井英夫推荐,成为特选。7月出版《丧失乳房》。同年8月3日去世,享年32岁。1955年,遗歌集《花之原型》出版。
