黒澤明の脚本、瑞穂春海の監督によって芸術祭に参加する『殺陣師段平』は鴈治郎の段平、雷蔵の沢田正二郎によって撮影を開始しましたが沢田正二郎といえば、大正の初年に演劇活動が芸術に偏して大衆から離反するのを嫌って「時代よりも半歩前進」をモットーに“新国劇”を創立し、一連の剣戟ものを一つの方向として取り上げた日本演劇史上の偉大な人物です。 　　現在の新国劇をあずかる、辰巳柳太郎、島田正吾はその門下であり、先般逝去した大河内伝次郎も沢正の門弟、大友柳太朗は辰巳柳太郎の門下ですから、沢正の孫弟子にあたるわけで、時代劇人にとっては忘れることの出来ない偉大な人です。この沢田正二郎に扮する雷蔵は、沢正ゆかりの人々から、ありし日の沢正面影をつたえ聞くなどして眼鏡をかけた扮装も凝りにこっての大熱演を見せています。この雷蔵と共演するのが、『青葉城の鬼』でデヴューした高田浩吉の愛娘高田美和さんで、段平の養女に扮して可憐な姿を見せています。
