Hoffmann (Scheicher) is an ambitious ethnology student in Berlin. When he meets the interpreter (Jazama) of the Herero and Nama delegation from German South West Africa on their visit to Germany, he develops an intense interest in the population. His experiences come to contradict the common evolutionist, racially based theories he has been confronted with up until that point. When it comes to the civil war, he is on the ground, travelling around and collecting artefacts that will form part of the collection of the modern-day Berlin Ethnological Museum. Hoffmann witnesses the cruelties of war, but he himself crosses moral boundaries when he agrees to collect Herero and Nama skeletons for research purposes.

Measuring Sadness is an essay film. Memories, archive footage, dreams and painful reality collide and touch each other in their own visual language. It measures a state, a process, in which sadness and beauty, vastness and closeness, warmth and coldness are combined in opposing ways.

德国导演Detlev Buck也在本土筹备一部新片，把德语作家Daniel Kehlmann连续37周占据《明镜周刊》畅销书榜首的《测量世界》搬上银幕，并且使用3D技术拍摄。这两部作品论起共同点的话除了畅销之外都有着交叉的人生和激动人心的探险故事。《测量世界》主人公是18世纪末德国的两位古怪天才，分别是博物学家洪堡与数学家高斯，用着各自的方式在进行着“测量世界”，直到最后两人的生活才有了交集。写该书时的Daniel Kehlmann只有30岁。《测量世界》与迈克尔·哈内克的新作《爱》（伊莎贝尔·于佩尔出演）等片一起获得了今年Berlin Film Board的资助，目前由Detlev Buck在打磨剧本，具体开机时间未定，但毫无疑问，它将成为德国迄今制作规模最大的3D影片。

实际电影分为三个部分，但故事线只有两条：一条是关于苏联的各种医学实验，包括尝试制造苏联自己的super being；另一条是纪录一对连体女婴肢体分离的手术和后续的生活。故事的结构主要是独立footage加旁白。这些footage来源都没有考证，画质各有不同，被剪辑得很支离。在电影的不同部分导演也会参插暗示和象征，如静物色调的变化和红灯下少女的自白。意外的是电影还引用了Manchu Code和Thomas Mann的《魔山》。@ Adam Lassnig

Seven fictional portraits, seven evocations of shadow workers. They "like", "tag", "troll" or engage in "opinion mining". They are in Dhaka, Krakow or North Carolina. The Clickworkers video evokes the multitude of people who accomplish, all day long and for a ridiculous salary, tiny and innumerable tasks which aim to make the internet more comfortable or to influence our vision of the world. The same voice speaks the testimonies of these invisible women. In the image, empty and neutral interiors follow one another, like so many representations of their absence.
