本片偏写实风格描述未世灾难降临后，幸存的八人组成一个特种部队，共同解救民众消灭外来生物，并追寻未世的原因及解决办法。每集讲述部队到了一个地方，一个故事，从城市到森林、河流、沙漠、村庄再到雪山，从中解救受困民众并消来外来生物，但整剧都贯穿追寻未世的原因及解决办法的中心思想，同时也贯穿八位主角的爱恨情仇。
