向阳村的赵老乐为儿子虎子的婚事忙前忙后，新儿媳荷花好不容易娶进了门，赵老乐却突然从外面捡了两个孩子回来。老乐不仅要养活孩子，而且还要让孩子过上和常人一样的生活。老乐视孩子为亲孙子，导致儿子及儿媳对老乐的误解。虎子病了，老乐为救虎子不遗余力，当虎子获得第二次生命时，村书记道出了实情，老乐这一生从未结过婚，老乐不但收养了两个孩子，就连虎子也是老乐收养的儿子。

The Debut is van Brakel's first-length movies as a director, and it too takes up the theme of a child growing up in an adult world. Caroline is a 14-year old whose first love is 40-year old Hugo, a friend of her parent's who just returned from Africa with his wife. The spontaneous attraction the two feel for each other when they meet develops as they enter into a strange relationshop, the somewhat staid Hugo seeling to find some of his lost youth in the impulsive young girl enrhralled with the discovery of ther womanhood and the attention she receives from the devoted older man. In a kind of idyllic isolation they pursue their fragile liason, but the inevitable intrustions of friends, parents and Hugo's wife soon confronts their love with the reality of their ultimately separate worlds. 　　With the aid of fhe excellent cinematography of Theo van de Sande, Nouchka van Brakel builds up through close attention to detail a portrait of the sharp intelligence of a young woman coming into her own.

Elaine is a young woman who lives in a skyscraper in a megacity. Suffering from depression and anxiety, she hasn't gone out of her room for months. One day, the thundering sound of water falling outside her window wakes her up. Outside her window is a window cleaner with soap in his eye. He needs a tissue to wipe his eye, and Elaine is the only person who can help. But that would require her to open the window and reach out. With a full anxiety flare-up, Elaine retreats behind curtains to shut him out and keep herself "safe." She tries ignoring him, but he doesn't go away. Eventually, she decides to gather up little courage to open the window. She hands the window cleaner a tissue and relieves him from pain. But it's not the window cleaner's gratitude that surprises Elaine. She realizes she opened the window by herself. It's spring outside, and things are alive and moving. The breeze wakes her up from a long slumber. She smiles for the first time because she sees the window is clear like her mind. She can finally rip the old pages from her calendar and catch up on the life she had been missing.

Murray (Miller) is shocked when his wife Bex (Catz) walks out on their marriage on her 40th birthday. The series follows his attempts to find out why she has left him and how he can win her back... though it's less a journey than a floundering stumble in the dark towards the prize of returning his life to something approaching normality. Friends, family and colleagues are only too ready to offer advice to Murray about what he should do, and each week sees him adopt a new strategy to achieve his goal.
