The film charts the rapid rise of record shops in the 1960′s, 70′s and 80′s, the influence of the chart, the underhand deals, the demise of vinyl and rise of the CD as well as new technologies. Where did it all go wrong? Why were 3 shops a week closing? Will we be left with no record shops with the continuing rise of downloading? Hear from over 20 record shop owners and music industry leaders as well as musicians including Paul Weller, Johnny Marr, Norman Cook, Billy Bragg, Nerina Pallot, Richard Hawley and Clint Boon as they all tell us how the shops became and still are a part of their own musical education, a place to cherish and discover new bands and new music.

The crime comedy film introduces us to Cooper, the owner of a record store called Paradise Records. Cooper works with his friends to make his store a haven for music lovers. However, his world begins to crumble when the threat of foreclosure looms over his beloved record store, and his friends face unemployment. To make matters worse, he comes into conflict with greedy businessmen and is held hostage by a couple of hapless gunmen. Caught in the crosshairs of unforeseen adversity, Cooper’s priorities swiftly shift from salvaging his business to safeguarding the lives of those he holds dear. Amid the chaos and uncertainty, Cooper discovers the true extent of loyalty and camaraderie as his friends rally around him.

SOUND IT OUT is a portrait of the very last surviving vinyl record shop in Teesside, North East England, directed by an artist who grew up just three miles away. The film captures a cultural haven in one of the most deprived areas in the UK–a place that is thriving against the odds–and the local community that keeps it alive. A distinctive, funny, and intimate film about people, North England, and the irreplaceable role music plays in our lives.

A feature length documentary tracing the early history of iconic Manchester record label Factory Records between 1978 & 1981. 　　The Facts and fictions are explored through candid interviews with 22 key participants, including Anthony H. Wilson (founder) and Peter Saville (designer), as well as musicians including Peter Hook (Joy Division / New Order), Vini Reilly (The Durutti Column), Simon Topping and Martin Moscrop (A Certain Ratio), Chris Watson (Cabaret Voltaire) and Howard Devoto (Buzzcocks/Magazine). 　　Other interviews include members of Section 25, Crispy Ambulance, The Names, Minny Pops, Swamp Children and Thick Pigeon, as well as other eyewitnesses and insiders such as Richard Boon, Annik Honoré, Lindsay Reade, Richard Jobson, Graham Massey and Killing Joke. 　　The film runs for 2 hours 15 minutes and is divided into 19 chapters, covering subjects such as The Factory Club, sleeve art and graphic design, genius producer Martin Hannett, the riot at the Joy Division concert at Bury in April 1980, the Factory Benelux connection, the tragic suicide of Joy Division singer Ian Curtis, the beginnings of New Order, and the decline of the post-punk culture in 1981. 　　Shadowplayers is based exclusively on new spoken word interviews, with soundtrack music by Section 25 and New Order, and rare images and graphics. The cover art is based on the first Factory design (FAC 1) by Peter Saville from 1978. 　　The DVD is NTSC format.
