旅烏の忠太郎は、飯岡宿で助五郎一家のイカサマ賭博に腹を立て、助五郎を襲って斬り損った。新米やくざの半次は忠太郎と同道を願ったが、忠太郎は武州金町の生家へ帰り堅気になる様に諭した。二人の跡を追った助五郎の子分七五郎と喜八は、半次の家をつきとめ呼出状を出した。半次の帰宅に母おむらと妹おぬいが喜ぶ間もなく、二人が押入り乱闘となり危うくなった時、通りかかった忠太郎が七五郎等を斬倒した。半次への後難を恐れた忠太郎は、おぬいに手を持ち添えてもらい、自分が斬ったと紙に書いて死骸に貼って立去った。忠太郎が探していた母の消息を知ったおぬいは、彼の後を追い途中で雲助に襲われたが八州の御用役人青木一作に救われた。潮来の宿では助五郎の廻し者が忠太郎を待っていた。忠太郎がおぬいと出遇い母お浜の居所を聞いた時、廻し者が襲ったが、騒ぎに駈けつけた青木とその子分清吉を見て廻し者は逃げた。清吉が持っていた金町での貼紙を見て忠太郎は母に一目会ってからと頼んだが、青木の慈悲で釈放された。忠太郎はおぬいと江戸に向い、橋の上におぬいを残して母に会いに行った。娘お登世の為にとお浜は涙を呑んで彼を突っぱねた。捨ゼリフを残して去る忠太郎を見たお登世に迫られ、お浜は娘と共に後を追った。忠太郎は再び助五郎の刺客に襲われ、彼の名を呼ぶお浜達の声を振り切る様に相手を斬り捨てた。橋の上ではおぬいが堅気になると誓った忠太郎を待ち続けていた。

But when it came to the turn of the bats to perform in the program, their fence-straddling tactics were exposed, and everyone refused to associate with them. Since that time, the bats have been too ashamed to show their faces during the day, coming out only at night to flit silently around.

《歌番》（うたばん、UTABAN）是1996年10月15日开播的TBS电视台音乐节目。节目名称“うたん”是由“歌曲”和“节目”二词的日文──“歌（うた）”、“番组（ばんぐみ）”──的简称。特别场更会以“特别番组（とくべつばんぐみ）”（特别节目）的简称“とくばん”（特番）来命名。2007年4月19日起加入字幕放送功能，而在2008年4月10日开始更以高清技术制作节目。

全长八十分钟的纪录片重现当年移民风潮形成的背景与经过，以及留守家乡的妇女望穿秋水，夜以继日盼君早日归来，茹苦含辛侍奉公婆，独力教养子女，将青春岁月尽付不可知未来的悠悠心情。        同时，也从通过乡亲漂洋过海远赴南洋，从事舢板业、驳船业、木材工厂、九八行贸易，用劳力换取工资，胼手胝足省吃俭用，以迄积攒银两汇回家乡养家活口，起造洋楼安顿族人，并修缮宗祠光宗耀祖，甚至于成为具影响力的侨领这些事迹，婉转又写实叙述金门人坚强的进取心。
