As they strive to move forward, they encounter a city detective Zorig, who questions the two about a missing man. As Zorig’s investigation deepens, he is entangled in a personal and emotional web, which makes him hesitate between right and wrong.

根据吉学霈的短篇小说改编。叶俊英是农业生产合作社的副社长，是出了名的好媳妇。她的丈夫李良玉是第三生产组组长，两个人生活的幸福美满。在一次生产竞赛中，因丈夫没把地锄净，被妻子插上白旗，丈夫大发脾气。李良玉的妹妹小苓批评哥哥的态度不端正，第二天在社干会上，大家都对李良玉的行为的出了批评。李良玉躲在隔壁偷听，他听到妻子不但没有批评他，而为他开脱，说他已经重新锄了遍麦地。
