19世纪中叶，伴随着工业革命蓬勃发展，全世界都进入了前所未有的动荡变革期，偏居一隅的日本自然无法避免。从小擅长打架的农家子土方岁三被孩子们称为小野孩，他胸怀大志，决计成为勇猛的武士。此后岁三进入试卫管，与近藤勇和冲田总司等好朋友共同磨练武艺刀法。未过多久，黑船事件正式敲开日本闭锁上百年的大门。暮色中的幕府无以为继，尊王攘夷的口号频起，土方、近藤、冲田等人接受感召，加入了令人闻风丧胆的新选组。日后的池田屋事件令新选组声名鹊起，而这群赤诚的武士见证着种种重要历史变革。 　　无奈天下大势已成定局，大政奉还之后，萨摩、长州追讨幕府，血债累累的新选组更成为众矢之的……

本片是以动画为呈现手法，实为书写给台北国际艺术村的一封动态信件。藉由糅杂不同驻村艺术家回馈的驻村感想并结合动画的流动性及延展性，艺术村从一个官方机构被变形为连接四面八方的桥，创造专属此地的时空经验。

多年来目睹一位朋友因性虐待引发创伤后应激障碍（PTSD），此后导演偶然结识了一位身为幸存者的摄影师 —— 对方的经历激励他决定拍摄这部电影。
