A few years ago I visited a temple near my home and a monk there gave me a little book called “A Man Who Can Recall His Past Lives.” In it, the monk wrote about Boonmee, who could recall his multiple lives in the cities of the northeast. In 2008, I wrote a screenplay inspired by the reincarnation of Boonmee, and started to travel in the region in search of his surviving offspring and relatives. I met his two sons who provided accounts of their father. 　　In Nabua in December 2008, I located several houses that I thought would be suitable as Uncle Boonmee’s house in the proposed feature film. This short film is a personal letter describing my Nabua to Uncle Boonmee. 　　The film is comprised of shots of the houses’ interiors in the evening. They are all deserted except one house with a group of young soldiers, played by some teens of Nabua. 青年武岛直贵在一家废品加工厂工作。他沉默寡言，总是独来独往。美丽可爱的食堂女工由美子对直贵颇有好感，经常主动接近他，而他却总是表现得十分漠然。原来，直贵心中埋着一个秘密——他有个哥哥名叫刚志，父母去世后，兄弟俩相依为命，为了能让直贵上大学，刚志铤而走险入室盗窃，不料失手杀了人，由此被判处无期徒刑。从此之后，直贵就过着不断换工作和搬家的生活，想成为一名搞笑艺人的梦想也永远地成了梦想。 　　刚志经常会给直贵写信，直贵每次都会认认真真地读信写回信。书信是狱中的刚志唯一的生存寄托，也是直贵抒解负疚感的唯一途径。 　　不料，直贵的秘密还是被工厂的同僚们知道了。受到歧视的直贵不得不离开工厂，而由美子的鼓励给了他改变现状的力量……
