BASIC TRAINING follows a company of draftees and enlisted men through the nine weeks of the basic 　　training cycle. The varieties of training techniques used by the army in converting civilians to soldiers are 　　illustrated in scenes of drills, M-16 and bayonet use, gas chamber, mines, night crawl, infiltration course and 　　the many forms of ideological training familiar to millions of men and women who have served in the armed 　　forces.

北乃さんが主演したケータイドラマ「ｓｔｉｌｌ　ｌｉｆｅ」は、２年間一緒に暮らしていた恋人のカケル＝入江甚儀（いりえ・じんぎ）さん＝が突然、海外に旅立ってしまい、一人部屋に取り残された美大に通うナツミ（北乃さん）が主人公。何もやる気がせず、無気力な毎日を送っていたナツミは友人のハルカ＝梅舟惟永（うめふね・ありえい）さん＝の説得もあり、渋々大学に行く準備を始める。そのとき棚にあった古いクロッキー帳を見つけ、白いページにベランダに置かれていた土しか入っていない植木鉢を描き、双葉が生えている様子を付け加えると、それが現実に生えてきた。ナツミは次々に欲しいものをクロッキー帳に描き、それが目の前に現れるのに狂喜乱舞し、勢いづいてカケルを描いてみると……というファンタジックなストーリー。「ｓｔｉｌｌ　ｌｉｆｅ」とは美術用語で「静物画」を意味する。

According to Harun Farocki, today's photographers working in advertising are, in a way, continuing the tradition of 17th century Flemish painters in that they depict objects from everyday life - the "still life". The filmmaker illustrates this intriguing hypothesis with three documentary sequences which show the photographers at work creating a contemporary "still life": a cheese-board, beer glasses and an expensive watch. 　　This remarkable film by Harun Farocki is a powerful essay and commentary on contemporary life. It compares the still-lifes of the Dutch painters with the still-lifes of today: Photographs for advertisements for cheese, beer and watches. Farocki's film is about objects because, according to the director, "Gods and heroes are no longer imaginable." Using behind-the-scenes glimpses of modern advertising offices, where employees toil at the proper placement of objects for maximum sales effect, Farocki presents a vision of our reality in which objects bear witness to their producers. In these objects is a new image of man.
