On October 9th, 1972 an exhibition of John Lennon/Yoko Ono's art, designed by the Master of the Fluxus movement, George Maciunas, opened at the Syracuse Museum of Art, curated by David Ross, presently Director of Whitney Museum, in New York. On the same day an unusual group of John's and Yoko's friends, including Ringo, Allen Ginsberg, Paul Krasner, and many others, gathered to celebrate John's birthday. This film is an visual and audio record of that event.

The personal film archives of Yoko Ono were utilized for this feature-length documentary on the life of John Lennon. Predictably, it downplays Lennon's association with the Beatles and concentrates on his years with Ono. The film spends a lot of time recounting Lennon's anti-war activities, highlighted by a confrontation on a talk show hosted by conservative cartoonist Al Capp. The title of the documentary is, of course, taken from Lennon's idyllic ballad about a world free of hatred and discord. Imagine: John Lennon is a reverent but ultimately depressing chronicle of an artist who died the untimeliest of deaths.

The 'Classic Albums' series document the making of seminal pop albums 　　(Paul Simon's 'Graceland', Bob Marley's 'Catch a Fire', Fleetwood 　　Mac's 'Rumours', to name but a few of the previous releases) through 　　interviews with participants and associates and the playing of master 　　tapes (more on that later). This new 52' feature documents the making 　　of John Lennon's first 'proper' (i.e. accessible to the public at 　　large) studio album, 'John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band', recorded in the 　　fall of 1970 and released in December of that year.
