Vardo aspires to be a good stepmother to Maro and Tamro, both lovely girls. The children want to study dancing, and Vardo works very hard to make it possible. 　　Giorgi Shengelaya makes his one of the best film "Pirosmani", which visual world is fully soaked with the soul of masterpieces of well-known primitivist painter N. Pirosmanashvili. At the same time Giorgi Shengelaya is a cinematographer, who successfully works in genre cinema. On his account are western adventure films "Matsi Khvitia", "Khareba da Gogia" (Khareba and Gogia), one of the best Georgian musical "Veris Ubnis Melodiebi" (Melodies of Vera Quarter) and also the parable from the Georgian history of the XIX century "Akhalgazrda kompozitoris Mogzauroba" (Trip ofYoung Composer).

Brazilian teenager Vera (Ana Beatriz Nogueria) is released from the orphanage where she has spent most of her life. Her brutal experiences while a ward of the State have caused her to adopt masculine dress and mannerisms--a successful effort to wield power over her fellow orphans. On the outside, Vera finds shelter and a job through the auspices of a benevolent professor (Raul Cortez). While still in male garb, Vera develops a chaste relationship with a female coworker (Aida Leiner). Unable to consummate the relationship, Vera undergoes a great deal of inner torment, at one point considering a sex change. The end of this provocative but non-sensational film finds Vera coming to grips with her femininity, even though her future happiness is still up in the air. 18-year-old Ana Beatriz Nogueria won a Berlin Film Festival best actress award for her astonishingly mature performance in Vera.

This is one example of a Mexican film genre celebrating the Mexican Revolution (1910-1921, more or less) many of them directed by Ismael Rodriguez (or Emilio Fernández), photographed by Gabriel Figueroa and often starring either Maria Felix or Dolores Del Rio. This film is a melodrama starring Mexico's two great female film stars (Del Rio the more famous of the two in the United States but Felix probably the bigger star in Mexico) and photographed in color by Figueroa, who was earlier known for his moody black and white. As entertainment it's very enjoyable. Maria Felix isn't a great actress but she had a style greatly loved in Mexico and Dolores Del Rio is often luminous.
