MOTHER TONGUE (母语) is a portrait of a Chinese American family in which the consequences of a mother’s decision to leave her young daughter in the care of a white American “homestay” family are slowly unearthed over the course of a family dinner. 　　Inspired by the “parachute kids” he knew growing up, writer/director Johnson Cheng explores the emotions of a daughter who is allowed to reunite, briefly, with her mother and attempts to make a connection with her.

吉田导演自编自导，构想8年的完全原创作品！故事把镜头对准人，松山研一扮演前辈拳击手瓜田，东出昌大则扮演天才年轻拳手小川，木村文乃将扮演小川的婚约者，同时也是瓜田的初恋千佳，而柄本时生扮演为了女儿而奋斗的新人拳手楢崎。

这是一个充满诗意的战时故事，讲述了一个年轻游击队员和一个乡村女孩之间的爱情。通过乡村女孩、年轻游击队员、一名摄影师和一名德国军官的讲述，给我们刻画了他们对战争时期的主观印象。将事件拼在一起，电影的基本故事就是女孩的故事。尽管经历了悲剧，这部电影的结尾还是证明了女孩的爱将战胜战争的残酷。
