『社長』シリーズ第14作。本作と次作『続・社長洋行記』の最大の特徴は、シリーズ初の海外ロケを行ったことで、当時イギリス領だった香港で行われた。監督は『お姐ちゃん罷り通る』で香港ロケの経験がある杉江敏男が『続サラリーマン忠臣蔵』以来の登板となり、更に助演には、当時香港映画界のスターで東宝作品『香港の夜』（監督：千葉泰樹）にも出演した尤敏が出演した。 　　『続・社長道中記』に出演した中真千子と、『サラリーマン清水港』に出演したフランキー堺が本作よりレギュラー入り、特にフランキー堺の加入はシリーズを活性化した。なお、司葉子は本作から『続・社長外遊記』まで出演しない。

中日ハーフの文学部大学生、林行簡は、尊敬する大学教授、八田芳野が飼う猫の世話をする機会を偶然手に入れる。猫の世話をしながら、八田の家を一人で探索する行简は、八田の知られざる秘密の可能性に気がつき、同時に自分も妄想の世界へと陥っていく。

华伦饰演的开利到新町，遇到曾经救过此时却是歌姬的金块，开利要替金块赎身，老鸨为了吓唬开利，开口便要两万银元，但是私下却把金块卖给了王大富。开利筹不到钱只好带着金块私奔，为了将来的生活，开利去了木材厂上班，一次意外不小心受伤，在医院需要花钱，金块只能去找个女工做，一次不巧被一个叫春兰的认了出来，春兰立刻回到台南以五十块银元价钱把金块的消息告诉给了老鸨。开利得知金块被老鸨带走，便去寻找金块，然后被老鸨手下活活打死丢到了后山湖里，金块在秋香的帮助下逃了出去，之后掉入了后山湖里，化为鬼魂回来找老鸨等人复仇。
