本书为清代道光、咸丰、同治、光绪四朝的诗歌选集。初名《道咸以来所见诗》，后改名 《道咸同光诗史一斑录》，光绪三十四年以钢板刻写油印出版。宣统二年又重新雕版行世，定名《道咸同光四朝诗史》。本书编纂者意在保全道咸以来诗史源流，重视诗歌史料的辑录。遴选的诗家大体囊括道咸以来诗坛名家，并撰写了极大多数诗家的小传（姓名、字号、爵里、代表作等），足资考见“四朝”诗坛大局。选录的诗作反映清代晚期社会现实，以诗存史，故以“诗史”为名。本书对清诗研究，以及晚清社会政治、经济、历史、文化的研究，均有重要的参考价值。 本书据宣统二年刻本影印，并收入清诗研究专家蒋寅的评述文章和诗家人名索引。
