往年の任侠劇のスタイルを継承した男気あふれるヤクザ映画。高嶋政宏が硬派な男の生き様を力強く体現する。ビートたけし、松方弘樹ら脇を固めるクセ者たちの妙演も見もの。昭和17年、若き渡世人、辰五郎は京都で組を構える。そんな彼の勢いを恐れる宿敵、遠山が嫌がらせに出た。やがて友人が殺されるにおよび、辰五郎は遠山との宿命の対決に挑む。
