“Break Through the Limits of Eroticism!” So read the title of one newspaper advertisement for SABANGJI, set during the Chosŏn dynasty (1392-1910) and undeniably catering to heterosexual male desire to gaze into the realm of female homoeroticism. In classic exploitation form, the title character of the film possesses both male and female genitalia, leading Sabangji to suffer an identity crisis and experience feelings of self-contempt. 　　And yet the film erases the protagonist’s masculine characteristics altogether. Sabangji’s penis never reveals itself even as a contour, existing merely as a crashing sound effect in the first sex scene. The erasure might be a sop to placate heterosexual men, but it also creates a space for female homoeroticism and an alternative, if tragic, form of love. In this sense, an otherwise sensationalistic phrase in the newspaper advertisement for the film is quite honest: “Hot female-to-female relations that rise above ethics and morals!” –Han Sang Kim

Though the village is like a haven of peace and happiness, Huang cun is rather isolated and lacks organized tourism development plan. Other hand, its neighboring village, Likeng, which is merely famous for a first Confucian school, seems to attract all the attention and obtains a noticeably different amount of tourists and the income from the tourists. Compared to Likeng, Huang cun does not have location, and neither financial resources; compared to WU Dong-qing, YU Duo-fu lack education and tools for communication. However, are they destined to lose?

Remember that homosexuality on film is banned in Thailand and so this film maker has been very daring. 　　Europeans on sex holidays to Thailand and transvestites who work in tourist areas may give a different impression, but this country is far from liberal in regard to homosexuality. A candid film maker like Thunska Pansittivorakul is therefore sure to come into contact with censorship sooner or later. So anyone who wonders why the two kids in this film keep their pants on right up to the end now knows the answer. 　　That doesn't mean that Pansittivorakul is prudish or cautious. You can only call him courageous and maybe even a little obsessed. Sex, gay sex, is his major theme and he has talked plenty of boys out of their clothes for his films. 　　And he has a very outspoken opinion about other things. These subjects may not be hot off the press, because it took the maker three years to complete the film after it was shot. 　　The documentary film shows two boys in a hotel room.
