上世纪六十年代，国际形势严峻，毛主席发出“好人好马上三线”的号召。军人后代张利军、农民儿子马朝阳、“资本家千金”陆若文以及留苏归来的向晴等满怀斗志与激情的年轻人，奔赴大西南的崇山峻岭。他们在以生命和青春践行理想的同时，也上演了一场令人牵肠挂肚的爱情角逐。 张利军一直爱慕陆若文，然而陆若文因闺蜜兼战友向晴非张利军不嫁，最终与殷勤却城府颇深的梁玉强结为夫妻。就在张利军逐渐接受向晴并筹备婚礼时，向晴在一场爆炸事故中不幸牺牲。后来，梁玉强与“出身不好”的陆若文离婚，历经无数坎坷后，张利军和陆若文终于步入婚姻殿堂。 改革开放后，张利军担任军工厂长，马朝阳成为航天科技研究院院长。高占武被查出患有胃癌，却依然坚守在设计室和车间。陆若文、马朝阳、张利军、向晴、高占武等人在荒山野地书写了中国国防工业建设的辉煌篇章。他们是无畏的斗士，奉献了青春、爱情、一生，甚至他们的子孙也投身其中。

二十世纪六十年代，在“黑云压城城欲摧”的国际形势下，毛主席一声号令：好人好马上三线。军人后代张利军 （ 杨烁 饰）、农民的儿子马朝阳、“资本家千金”陆若文 （ 苏青 饰）和留苏归来的向晴 （ 练练 饰）等这些充满斗志和激情的年轻人，来到了大西南的崇山峻岭，用生命和青春实践自己的理想同时，又演绎着牵肠挂肚的爱情角逐。 一口京腔的大工匠刘连柱因为爱徒梁玉强喜欢上陆若文，竟要断了师徒关系。直到梁玉强在发射基地因排除故障而牺牲，刘连柱都不肯原谅。但谁也不敢相信，害了他爱徒陆若文居然能请他再次出山，为远程火箭试飞成功一显身手。一生梦想当将军的张利军不幸英年早逝，临终，司令员才发现这个一身毛病的小子却有很多不为人知的贡献。马朝阳出席了全国科技大会，火箭伺服系统的研发成果获得最高奖项，在张利军的坟头，闪光的奖章证明了他生命的意义和价值 。

We may think that we're simply not capable of understanding the increasingly complex problems of our planet, but for these charismatic scientists, that's not enough. Whether it's on the top of the world, in the depths of the ocean, inside the human brain, at the G-20 summit, or in the heart of the International Space Station ISS, they are searching for practical ways to save our world. Considering their drive, we have to ask ourselves if, we as citizens of the planet, are finally ready to take on responsibility - if only for the sake of those who will come after us and ask: "WHO WE WERE"?
