Matt Shepard is a Friend of Mine is a powerful feature documentary about Matthew Shepard, the gay young man who was tortured and murdered in one of the most notorious hate crimes in U.S. history. Directed by Michele Josue, a close friend of Shepards’, the film revisits the shocking case with never-before-seen photos, rare video footage, and new revelations about Shepard's all-too-brief life.

The parents initially want to request the death penalty for their son's murderers, but the mother, Judy, starts to reconsider. As they struggle with their decision, they decide to reexamine the life of their son and rediscover his personality, his struggle to accept his homosexual sexual orientation as a natural part of his being and above all, his generous humanity to others. All of this leads the parents to appeal to the court the way their son would have wanted, not out of vengeance but to represent best of what their son was and the tragedy of his loss.

本作品是以一边作为派遣职员工作一边以小说家为目标的早川麻衣为主人公的青春电视剧。她被派遣单位终止了合同，被认为是最后机会的文学奖也落选了，几乎失去了希望。在这样的情况下，以某件事为契机，高中时代的好友们各有各的，实现了时隔10年的再会。麻衣一方面找回了积极的心情，另一方面对好友一直抱有的罪恶感感到痛苦。
