枯陀国少年寻舅至景明国，却见舅舅因说真话被斥为“异类”。半截辐条、一把木尺、几片布料，揭开仿造水车、篡改农书的真相。当流民涌入，口号震天，舅舅攥着牛皮册子，用狼图腾弯刀护住粮仓，也护住那些“烧了也得留灰烬”的较真。

《麦河》是关仁山经过多年的生活积累和思想突破，几易其稿，倾力创作的一部关于河流、土地、庄稼和新农民的大书，是一曲献给土地的深情的颂歌，是当前难得的关照现实、关照农民问题的重头力作。《麦河》以冀东平原的麦河（亦称滦河）流域农村为背景，描写了近年来农村土地流转的故事，精心塑造了回乡进行土地流转的企业家曹双羊、作为小说故事叙述者乐亭大鼓艺人瞎三白立国以及命运多舛的农村姑娘桃儿等一系列引人注目的艺术形象，时代气息、生活气息浓厚，小说在叙述角度、小麦文化开掘以及具有象征意义的百岁老鹰形象的创造、瞎三与坟场鬼魂对话等方面又有令人耳目一新的艺术创新，是一部既有深度又有厚度、既注重艺术创新又坚持现实主义创作原则的长篇小说。
