多年以前，日本女排因其在赛场上超乎寻常的表现，曾被称作“东方魔女”。本片记录了与日本前女排队员的见面之旅，回溯了她们从纺织厂组队到东奥会夺冠这中间的种种，旨在重现这群七旬老人的激情岁月，并一探其“魔力”之究竟。

一对中国夫妇为逃避战乱而出走，途中遇到的日军都非常友好和善。在十三陵附近，他们遭到一些中国军队败兵的抢劫，幸得日本巡逻队经过帮助他们驱散。途中的经历使他们感受到中日已经友好合作……

昭和初年，大侦探胜吕武尊（野村万斋饰）乘东洋特快返回东京，谁知途中遭遇匪夷所思的事件。粗鲁蛮横的实业家藤堂（佐藤浩市饰）在梦中惨遭杀害，而凶手可能就是该车厢中的一人。凭借现场的蛛丝马迹，胜吕对列车员三木（西田敏行饰）、藤堂的秘书慕内（二宫和也饰）、管家益田（小林隆饰）、贵妇人羽鸟（富司纯子饰）、侯爵夫人（草笛光子饰）及其侍从昼出川（青木沙耶香饰）、外交官安藤（玉木宏饰）及其夫人（杏饰）、陆军大佐能登（泽村一树饰）、私家侦探羽佐间（池松壮亮饰）、汽车销售员保土田（藤本隆宏饰）、家庭教师马场（松岛菜菜子饰）、教会人员吴田（八木亚希子饰）等十数人展开问询。每个人都有确凿的不在场证明，众人的证词却又有离奇反常之处。在此期间，另一起沉疴数年的案件浮出水面，引出藤堂遇害背后的真相。

周平意外穿越到大夏，成为一方县令，为了改善百姓生活，提高安县GDP，增加国力抵抗蛮夷的入侵，发展科技，娶妻八百身怀绝技，生下三千子嗣个个人中龙凤。女帝因朝政不稳，特来安县寻找治世能臣，与周平巧打巧闹，利用周平发明的加特林，火箭炮，坦克，悟空机甲等高科技武器，抵抗了蛮夷国的入侵，成功收获了女帝芳心。

Ancient Worlds is about people and places, politics and economics, art and war, trade and technology, but above all it’s the story of the painful birth and difficult growth of a radical idea first tried and tested some six thousand years ago, and which we are still struggling with today; civilisation.
