BACK FORK is the story of an everyman, WAYLON, struggling to hold his life and family together after a heartbreaking tragedy. He and his wife, NIDA, barely recognize themselves, let alone each other. Their inability to continue on and to heal, leaves them hopeless. With the growing burden of the unanswered questions of why, and a heavy dose of self-blame, It's only a matter of time before Waylon turns to the magic of the pills to make the problems disappear. He finds a kindred spirit in his sister, RAYLENE, as he sleep walks through life with addiction. It's only a matter of time until Waylon finds himself at a crossroads. He learns that he's been asking the wrong question all along. The question isn't why, rather, where do I go from here? He's then able to see that we're all wounded animals. 故事发生在南宋末年。良臣焦赞（一真 饰）因不满朝廷黑白不分、忠良频频遭陷，一气之下杀了御史谢金吾。朝廷念其抗辽有功，免其一死，差人送他沙门岛充军。三岔口客栈是去沙门岛必经之地，店主人刘利华（吴樾 饰）以卖驴肉招待投宿的客人，店内雇一驼背伙计（赵亮 饰）打点。这天，谢金吾的妻子（时代美 饰）找到刘利华，她用色相跟其达成协议，要他杀掉路过的焦赞，以夫报仇。解差押着带枷的焦赞来客栈歇脚，焦一眼发现店主人正是先前被自己搭救过的刘利华。焦赞深受一路铁枷之苦，求刘利华给自己一刀，来个了结。刘本来下不了手，但见焦赞生不如死的凄惨状况，只好遂了大哥心愿，刀刚举起，意想不到的奇迹出现了......

This short movie was the first work of Aleksandr Kajdanovsky as a director, unfortunately much known for his acting career. 　　He wrote the script in just one night, based on the short story "The garden of forking paths" by Jorge Luis Borges. 　　There was always something mysterious and tragic about him, as a preview of his premature death. 　　He rejected conventionalisms, and opened his soul just with the ones he really loved. 　　Friends said that "Aleksandr was like an antenna, he could catch every signal of hypocrisy". 　　Maybe that's why he left just a few people to get into his inner world, without still being a loner as he always was.
