Lucia di Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti is an opera seria in three acts. This bel canto piece marked the birth of the Italian Romantic Movement. The storyline of this opera is based on Walter Scott’s novel, The Bride of Lammermoor, written in 1819. Donizetti changed only a few of the characters’ names. 　　故事描述18世纪初，苏格兰拉美莫尔地区的领主亨利·阿斯顿勋爵与雷文斯伍德城的领主埃德加，世代为敌，他夺取了埃德加的财产，只留给埃德加一座荒废的要塞（在韦尔费拉格）。有一天亨利的妹妹露契亚受到公牛的袭击，被偶然经过这里的埃德加相救。因此，露契亚便爱上了他。 　　亨利·阿斯顿知道后百般阻挠，出于政治野心，他要妹妹放弃埃德加嫁给他的政治盟友阿瑟·巴克洛勋爵。遭到露契亚的极力反对。不久，即将出使法国的埃德加前来向露契亚告别，两人立誓终生相爱，永不变心。埃德加到法国后，写了很多封信给露契亚，但都被阿斯顿心腹诺尔曼截获。阿斯顿和诺尔曼还伪造埃德加的信件：“向露契亚表明他已另有新欢。”露契亚看后悲痛万分，阿斯顿则趁机为她与巴克洛勋爵安排婚礼。婚礼进行中，恰好埃德加回国赶到，闯进来大骂露契亚负心、背叛。露琪亚受不了刺激而发疯。当晚，露契亚疯狂地刺杀新郎巴克洛，自己亦自杀。埃德加闻讯，痛不欲生，也拔剑自刎。

In Katie Mitchell’s sometimes radical production of Lucia di Lammermoor from the Royal Opera House, she is, as the Financial Times wrote, 'brilliantly convincing'. Award winning director Katie Mitchell took a revisionist approach to the drama, updating the action to the mid-19th century and applying a feminist slant as she added new and unexpected elements. Mitchell also made extensive use of a ‘split screen’ effect on the stage, counterpointing two different pieces of action at key moments.

阿迪娜（安吉拉·乔治乌 Angela Gheorghiu 饰）是既漂亮又富有的女地主，偏偏爱上了名不见经传的青年农人内莫里诺（查尔·阿兹纳弗 Charles Aznavour 饰）。然而，内莫里诺自知自己和阿迪娜之间身份悬殊，所以一直不敢向她表露真心，这畏畏缩缩的样子让阿迪娜感到十分的恼火。 　　军曹贝克尔（阿兰尼亚 Roberto Alagna 饰）爱慕阿迪娜已久，这一次，他带领着自己的人马来到了阿迪娜所在的村庄，准备正式的追求这位美人。贝克尔的出现让内莫里诺对于阿迪娜的感情更加的动摇了。江湖庸医杜卡尔马拉来到了村子里，声称自己贩售的“爱的甘醇”能令饮用它的人得到爱情，为情所苦的内莫里诺相信了庸医的鬼话，斥巨资购买，却反而因为醉酒惹恼了阿迪娜。

多尼采蒂《玛丽·斯图亚特》是意大利作曲家葛塔诺·多尼采蒂(Donizetti Gaetano，1797—1848年)创作的歌剧作品。早在这部歌剧开始写作与首演之前，多尼采蒂就指望靠《玛丽·斯图亚特》造成轰动。但著名的编剧家罗马尼退出后，整个计划跟着走样。 　　席勒的原剧巧妙地将复杂的政治阴谋与心理的挣扎结合成一体，但替代编剧的律师巴达里将整个悲剧简化成两个女王之间的争权夺爱。由于那布勒斯国王亲自下令禁演，多尼采蒂被迫在彩排之前的简短时间内重新改写全剧，新的版本有不同的情节，并改名《波德蒙特》(Buondelmonte)，但1834年在那布勒斯演出时却是一大惨败。为米兰演出而写的另一个新版本还是失败，多尼采蒂只好束之高阁。 　　曾是苏格兰女王的玛丽亚·斯图亚达因叛国罪被关在城中。英国女王伊丽莎白认为，她超越政治竞争对手，在与心爱的男性罗伯托的关系上也是情敌。玛丽亚跪在地上请求宽大处理，但被嫉妒蒙蔽双眼的伊丽莎白却对玛丽亚进行指责和侮辱。对此，玛丽亚也勃然大怒，用可耻的话来还击伊丽莎白，称她为“玷污英国王座的卑劣私生子”。最后，伊丽莎白在死刑执行书上签字，玛丽亚听到了宣布自己死亡的大炮声.......
