Mit dem gemeinsamen Kurzfilm „Notes From A Day In The Life Of An Architect“ schufen Regisseur Wim Wenders und der Architekt Peter Zumthor auf Einladung von David Chipperfield ihr erstes gemeinsames Projekt. Wie sich herausstellte, war dieser Film nur der Auftakt für etwas viel Größeres. Sie stellten fest, dass sie eine ähnliche Arbeitsweise haben: Sie entwickeln Dinge von innen heraus. Der Wunsch, gemeinsam ein filmisches Projekt anzugehen, wurde immer größer. So befasst sich Wim Wenders in diesem Dokumentarfilm mit Peter Zumthors Arbeit und hat mit dem Erweiterungsbau der Fondation Beyeler in Riehen bei Basel und den Neubau des Los Angeles Country Museum of Art zwei kommende Architekturvorhaben von Zumthor als Leitthema.
