Johan Knut Harju (1910-1976) was a self-taught writer and historian, but also a homeless alcoholic. Harju had a unique talent to document his and his peers’ lives with a personal voice that invites the person in and see the world from his point of view. Harju collected his stories for you, a future person, so that the people living under the bridges would not be forgotten. The virtual reality experience combines the Helsinki City Museum photo archives, recordings of Harju’s voice, 360 degrees footage inside a historical tram with animation that is inspired by Harju’s drawing style, into an experience that allows the audience to have a moment with Harju in 1960’s Helsinki. 　　DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT 　　What happens to the stories of people living in the shadows of history? Harju preserved a different perspective to the history of my own hometown. This virtual reality experience gives Harju a space to tell his story and lets the audience have a moment inside his memories. We are given access to a subjective viewpoint, which hopes to question what is considered worthy of historical annals.

Hendrik and Willi are the owners and crew of a canal barge. They travel up and down the Havel River, have girlfriends here and there, and dream of a “solid” life. One evening they observe a young girl, Anna, who is apparently about to jump off a bridge. They both run to save her, but are “disappointed” to find out that she only threw a ten mark note into the river in hopes of ridding herself of a bad memory. Anna is persuaded to travel back to Berlin as a “passenger” with them, and the two friends soon fall in love with her. After an insulting comment from Willi, Anna leaves the boat, and the two men make an agreement with one another: whoever wins Anna back must forfeit his claim to the barge. Feeling sure of himself, Willi goes on land and looks after her. However, he soon realizes that she is in love with Hendrik, and is honest enough to confess this realization to his friend. But his friendship with Hendrik is more important to him than their agreement, and so the three start a new life on board the barge, all together.

笹野阳介（役所广司）被公司裁员裁掉后又被妻子抛弃，只得流浪街头，通过一位流浪老人之口，他来到遥远偏僻的能登半岛一幢位于河边赤桥下的房子，想找寻老人所说的藏有金佛的盒子，但没能如愿以偿，只遇见体质相当特殊的佐惠子（清水美砂）。 　　佐惠子的特殊在于，当她与男性交合时，体内会分泌出神奇的“暖水”，该“暖水”能令过季的花儿盛开、能把大海的鱼群召到河里。而更重要的，是沐浴在佐惠子“暖水”下的男人，会重拾失去的信心和活力。如此，笹野阳介与佐惠子开始了一次次的交合。

笹野阳介中年失业，妻子离开他回了娘家。他前去拜访自己视之为人生之师的流浪老人太郎，不料太郎已经去世。阳介想起太郎生前曾经提起他偷了一尊金佛藏在位于能登半岛的一座红桥下的屋中，于是便出发前往能登寻找。在那里，阳介遇到了一个名叫佐惠子女子。佐惠子的体质相当特殊，如果不与男性交合，体内的水就会凝结。阳介被她所吸引留在当地打鱼，一旦接到佐惠子的召唤就去找她与之交欢。一日，阳介看到佐惠子与另一个男人亲密交谈，在得知两人的关系后，阳介夺回了佐惠子，与她和一次又一次地深深结合……

I saw this when it was first released, but I've never seen it since, not even on Turner or AMC. I'd love to know why it sank out of sight. Perhaps because Raf Vallone was virtually unknown in the USA? (Maybe if it had starred Van Heflin, who originated the lead role on Broadway.) I am glad to see a new production of it is underway. With Miller's recent death, maybe it will attract the attention it deserves as Miller's homage to Greek tragedy adapted to the lives of "ordinary" working people and to modern stagecraft. After more than 40 years, I finally saw a stage production last night, by the University of Oregon Theater Arts Dept. For a college production it was more than adequate, despite the awful acoustics of their theater. The young actor who played Eddie Carbone was quite good. But it whetted my appetite for a professional production. It's available in VHS on Amazon, but I don't want to buy it, just watch it.

Right next to them are non-professional club of Chu Opera, amateur chorus, barbers, non-licensed dentists, nail artists, and private business men who sell sexual tools and snacks. All these components make a small portrait of the city they are living. 　　导演阐述 　　每个城市都有这样的角落和老人，对于我们惯有的忽视，他们无暇顾及，只依着内在的律动休养生息。我们偶然进入，稍经触碰，即被感动。 　　Those scenes and old people are so common in modern cities in China that young people never spare a second to pay any attention. Those people seem not caring much of being neglected shadows; they follow their naturally born pace and live their own life. Only when we accidentally step into their world, do we feel those people's emotions and be deeply moved by all their stories.
