In this series for BBC Two, historian Amanda Vickery uncovers Britain’s longest war, the 300 year long campaign by women for political and sex equality in Britain, revealing the largely forgotten heroines (and a few heroes) who fought for the cause. The suffragette’s battle to win the vote is the popular symbol of this struggle, but Vickery places that struggle in a much wider context, from the Levellers, the first recorded women’s rights demonstration at the time of Cromwell to the first custody battle in court over children in a divorce, producing the first piece of British legislation in support of women’s rights, to the lessons she draws from a woman becoming Prime Minister just 50 years after the franchise was extended to all women over the age of 18 and the ongoing fight for equal status today.

The Story of Women and Art is a television documentary series, consisting of three one-hour episodes, on the history of women artists in Europe from the Renaissance onwards, first broadcast in the United Kingdom on BBC Two in May 2014. The series is presented by Professor Amanda Vickery. 　　Artists featured include Sofonisba Anguissola, Anne Seymour Damer, Angelica Kauffman, and the 17th-century Dutch paper cutter Joanna Koerten. February 2018 will mark 100 years of women in the UK being allowed to vote. Today in Britain, this democratic act feels like a basic human right, but as Lucy Worsley will reveal in this 90 minute special, the battle that women had to wage for this right was complex and hard-fought. 　　Using original source materials to piece together a captivating telling of the forgotten stories from this period of history, Lucy will explore the range of people who fought for the vote - young and old, rich and poor, men and women, from all over the country - some of whom decided to go against every rule and expectation that Victorian society had about them. 　　She will reveal what life was like as a Suffragette whose every move was tracked by a special police unit, explore the horrific prison conditions that these women were sentenced to as well tell the story of unsung heroes and heroines who helped women to reach equality at the ballot box by peaceful means. 　　With the help of letters, diary entries, newspaper articles and formerly classified documents, Lucy will immerse us in the story of women on the run from the police, hunger strikes, arson, harassment campaigns and family fall outs on one side with espionage, force feeding, news media bias, police surveillance and government interference on the other, painting a vivid and timely depiction of this landmark moment in British History. 　　Lucy says: 「I'm thrilled to be marking the 100 year anniversary of women getting the vote with this 90 minute film for BBC One in such a dramatic and exciting way.」

Jane Fonda narrates the story of the years between the ascent of talkies until late in 1934, when the Hays Office cracked down on what it perceived as immorality in Hollywood movies. The emphasis is on how women were portrayed, and focuses on how they were much more liberated and equal (or superior) to men, until 1935 when they once again took subservient roles to their male co-stars.
