普拉村村民尼玛扎堆 （ 尼玛扎堆 饰）在父亲去世后决定完成父亲的遗愿，带着叔叔杨培 （ 杨培 饰）去拉萨和神山冈仁波齐朝圣。时正马年，正好是神山冈仁波齐百年一遇的本命年，小村里很多人都希望加入尼玛扎堆的朝圣队伍。这支队伍里有即将临盆的孕妇、家徒四壁的屠夫、自幼残疾的少年，每个人都有着不同的故事也怀揣着各自的希望。为了去冈仁波齐，这支十一人的队伍踏上了历时一年，长达2500多公里的朝圣之路 。

影片讲述生活在西藏的一个小村庄里的尼玛为完成叔叔的夙愿，和他同村的亲朋好友一行11人前往拉萨和神山冈仁波齐，用一年多的时间完成徒步跪拜2000公里的朝圣之路。影片经历了长达1年的拍摄，它是导演张扬书写的一封致爱书，送给影片中那群不可思议的善男信女们。
